Two examiners are appointed to examine dissertations. Examiners are external to ACD. Supervisors nominate examiners. Examiners should be nominated on the basis that they are academic members or affiliate members of a tertiary institution. If not, supervisors should provide information about their nominated examiners that includes the employment, research, supervisory and examination experience. It is expected that examiners:
- Have not had supervisory roles in relation to the student’s research being examined
- Have not co-authored any papers with the student in relation to doctoral or masters research
- Are active in their own research
- Update knowledge of their fields.
Examiners receive an honorarium in acknowledgement of their time spent on the dissertation examination. Examiners have the option to not have their identity disclosed to the candidate. Candidates are not advised of the final recommendation of examiners. The examiners’ comments and recommendations are tabled at the Post graduate committee.
