8.6.11 - Adelaide College of Divinity: Confident of it future despite closure of CTC
Response to the announcement of the closure of the Catholic Theological College
It is with great sadness that we have received advice that the Catholic Archdiocese of Adelaide has decided to close the Catholic Theological College (CTC). Although CTC had ceased to be a member of Adelaide College of Divinity (ACD) in 2010, we had looked forward to continuing to share a common campus and library facilities, and the opportunity this affords for collegial and ecumenical relations, into the future. CTC has been a member of the ACD for over thirty years during which time deep friendships had formed among staff and students.
The future of the ACD is secure despite the closure of CTC. Our certificate, diploma, bachelor, master and doctor of ministry courses will continue. Read more (download)

07.12.06 - Spirituality in art

Activity on the ACD Campus goes beyond classes and seminars: we have an Artist in Residence. Yvonne Ashby came to the role through her regular involvement in the ACD biennial Art Exhibition as part of the Adelaide Fringe Festival.
Being on campus, Yvonne said her interest was piqued when she heard about evening lectures on Evolution and the Bible. One thing led to another and she found herself attending classes as an audit student in a series of topics. The subjects raised in classes gave her inspiration, as she could relate what she learned in class to her own interest in spirituality and religion.
Yvonne enjoys the ecumenical campus, the contact with different denominations and access to ‘brilliant minds’. ‘The academic staff have so much to offer about the real world of humanity’ she said.
She found studies so enjoyable, putting her interests, work and life in context, that she is now enrolled in an ACD course. It was a bonus for Yvonne to find that assessment in some topics is quite broad, allowing assignments in different formats or customised to student interests, such as art works or a focus on art and architecture.
Being Artist in Residence and studying theology have brought many aspects of Yvonne’s life together. Through studies she is finding time to develop away from the pressure of working as a professional artist. Yvonne said, ‘I find study has brought into focus the important things, including my identity as an artist. I’m excited by the way I’m now developing expression of spirituality in my art.’
