Student Resources

This page has material specifically for students of theology at the Adelaide College of Divinity (ACD) and Flinders University.

Library instructions & tours
Adelaide Theological Library staff are really interested in helping you to learn more about the library service and its resources so as to enhance your theological learning. We are willing to meet with small groups and/or individual students. Please contact the library if you would like to make a time to meet with a librarian.

Finding Tutorial Readings for ACD Topics

Books and journals containing the tutorial readings are shelved in the Reserve and 7 day loan collection, in the reception area of Adelaide Theological Library.

This collection includes items identified by lecturers as required reading for all ACD topics during the semester.

Books are shelved by call number, not by topic.
Search the Voyager Catalog to identify the call number—or to refer to a printout that is kept on the group study table nearby (Important: Except for a few selected topics, ACD does not use the Course Reserve list on Voyager)
Journals and photocopies are shelved at the beginning of the call number sequence in this collection
Sole copies of a title will be labeled with a blue tag for use in the library only
Multiple copies of a title will be available for loan for 7 days.

Acknowledging Sources

It is necessary to adopt a consistent referencing system to cite the work of other scholars when writing papers. A humanities notes and bibliography system is generally preferred by the Flinders School of Theology and the ACD. Higher education students are advised to discuss this with their supervisors.

A handout giving basic examples is available here. <Chicago Referencing>
Hard copies are available from the Adelaide Theological Library for a cost of $2

Recommended handbooks for Theology students include:

Chicago Referencing

An online source from Western Washington University (USA) is at: www.library.wwu.edu/lmt/page.phtml?page_id=698

Endnote
Flinders University has entered into a licence for the bibliographic computer software called EndNote, which allows all Flinders staff and students to freely use a copy both on campus and at home. It is of particular value to research higher degree students.

EndNote enables the creation of a personal database to keep track of reference data (author(s), title, year, journal, publisher etc), either entered from the keyboard or extracted from search databases. Full details are available at: www.flinders.edu.au/compserv/sitelicences/
