Access & Borrowing

Adelaide Theological Library (ATL) supports the teaching and research of the Adelaide College of Divinity (ACD) an activity of the Anglican, Catholic and Uniting Churches in South Australia.

ATL is open to the public and all materials are available for on-site use. Community borrowing cards are available for purchase.
 

People Eligible to Borrow from Adelaide Theological Library

South Australian residents may become borrowers by paying the library a fee. The membership fee is $45 per year.

The following persons are exempt from the requirement to pay the library a fee:

  • Students enrolled with the Adelaide College of Divinity
  • Students enrolled with Flinders University
  • Staff of the Adelaide College of Divinity
  • Staff of Flinders University
  • Staff and students of Adelaide University and the University of South Australia
  • Staff and students of Australian Lutheran College who apply for reciprocal membership

Obtaining a Library Card

Members need to have an Adelaide Theological Library card to make optimal use of their library membership.

For Community Members
Community members may collect their card from the library on completion of a Borrower Registration Form and the payment of the current library fee. Alternative arrangements may be negotiated on an individual basis.
 

For Flinders Internal Students
The Flinders Student ID is the library card for Flinders University and Adelaide Theological Libraries.

Students may collect a student ID/library card (after enrolling online) from level one of the Flinders Central Library, 9am-5pm weekdays. They will need to present evidence of their current enrolment.

Remote or part time students who are unable to visit the Central Library to obtain their ID card may complete a postal application available from Adelaide Theological Library or at: http://www.flinders.edu.au/library/services/flexdel/ Students will need to supply a head and shoulders photograph of themselves.

Continuing students may obtain an updated date sticker for their student card from the Student Centre building (next to the Sports Centre) on the Flinders Campus, or ring Student Enrolments (8201 3950) to have one posted out.

For Flinders External Students
The Flinders Student ID is the library card for Flinders University and Adelaide Theological Libraries.

Students who are enrolled externally for all topics and are not required to attend campus on a regular basis and who live outside the Adelaide metropolitan area may register for Flexible Delivery library services from Flinders Central library

For ACD Internal Students
The Adelaide College of Divinity student ID is the library card for Adelaide Theological Library.

Students must complete a topic enrolment. First time enrolling students are encouraged to have their photo taken at the ACD office to be affixed to a student ID/library card

Transport concession cards are available for full time students

Students will also need to complete a borrower registration form for the Adelaide Theological Library and have a barcode added to their ID card

Continuing students may apply in person to the library to have their library membership extended at no cost. They will need to present a receipt for payment of current topic fees and if possible, their ACD student ID/library card. ATL staff will then amend the expiry date of the patron record, and make any other necessary address changes.
 

For ACD External Students
The Adelaide College of Divinity student ID is the library card for Adelaide Theological Library.

Students must complete a topic enrolment.

Students also need to complete a borrower registration form for the Adelaide Theological Library. Students may also apply to join the ATL by email theo.library@flinders.edu.au or phone:08 8416 8416.

ATL staff will post the ACD ID/Library card (along with library information) to the student. Emailing the student barcode number and sending attachments of library information may be an option if the student has a broadband link

Continuing students may apply by phone or email to the ATL to have their library membership extended at no cost.

Renewing Loans

Members can renew their own loans on the Voyager Catalogue. Click on 'My Record'

Flinders students may enter their FAN and password or library barcode;
ACD students and staff and community members will need to enter their library barcode.

As of January 3rd, 2012, 28 day and 7 day loans can be renewed four times per item.

Reasons why this may not work are:

The loan is already overdue
The item has been reserved by another patron
The item is part of a collection not able to be renewed (eg. 7 day loan)

Email Is Important

The library has the capacity to send courtesy and overdue notices to borrowers by email. If you regularly access email, please let us know your address.

Failure to read and act upon library emails may incur demerit points, which may affect borrowing rights.

Email for Flinders University Students

All Flinders students are provided with an email account (i.e., username and password) on enrolment. Your email username is the same as your Flinders Authentication Name (FAN), which is included in your enrolment letter. An initial password is also provided, will also be provided.

Flinders Libraries and Adelaide Theological Library use FAN/email accounts to issue any overdue notices and to provide you with access to some library databases and full text electronic resources.

Failure to read and act upon library emails may incur demerit points, which may affect borrowing rights.

It will be necessary to activate your FAN and change your password at the following address <http://www.flinders.edu.au/fan/>
if you wish to redirect your email go to <http://livemail.flinders.edu.au/>.

Important: Please forward your Flinders email to your preferred work/home email address if you don’t wish to access the Flinders email program.

Returning Loans

Material may be returned either to Adelaide Theological Library or to any of the Flinders University Library branches (Central, Sturt, Medical.)

There is an after-hours book return chute adjacent to the main entrance of the ACD Campus on Lipsett Terrace.

*Books in the Reference and Rare Books collections are not normally available for loan

**The initial loan period on books from the ATL book collections will usually be extended by a week to cover postage for students studying by distance

***ACD students enrolled in Distance topics are eligible to borrow from the Theology-Distance Education collection. Loans from this collection are available for 6 weeks with 4 renewals.
