Which ACD Course of Study?

The length of time to complete each ACD course is given below. Each course can be studied part-time or full-time, except postgraduate courses are only available on a part-time basis. Study by distance education is also available in some courses. Online components are being introduced in some units of study.

There are two semesters in each academic year, and each semester has two terms. A term is approximately 7 weeks.

Course Descriptions

Certificates and Diploma in Christian Life and Ministry

The Christian Life and Ministry (CLM) courses are designed to equip people for Christian leadership and service. Foundations in understanding the Bible and Christian teachings, leadership in ministry and growth in Christian discipleship prepare people in many roles, including lay preacher, youth and children's leader, worship leader, mission worker, lay chaplain and other church staff.

The CLM certificate and diploma courses on offer are:

  • Certificate IV in Christian Life and Ministry
  • Diploma in Christian Life and Ministry

The suite of accredited CLM courses also includes a Certificate III in Christian Life and Ministry which is not currently available.

Bachelor of Ministry / Associate Degree of Ministry / Diploma of Ministry

The Bachelor of Ministry, Associate Degree of Ministry and Diploma of Ministry form a suite of nested courses concerned with the practice of ministry. Centred on the integration of practice and theology, students will engage with contemporary approaches to scripture, mission, leadership and Christian education and discipleship as they grow and develop their skills for Christian ministry and leadership.

There are four areas of study in the Ministry suite of courses:

  • Biblical Studies
  • Christian Education and Discipleship
  • Leadership
  • Missiology

Master of Ministry / Graduate Diplomas

The Master of Ministry is a professional degree for those involved in Christian ministry. The course aims to assist Christian leaders in developing their personal, spiritual, pastoral and intellectual capacities through empirical research and theological reflection and a ministry project. The Master of Ministry is only available on a part-time basis. Students have the option to exit with a Graduate Diploma in Ministry or a Graduate Diploma in Resource Ministry (distance education only).

Doctor of Ministry

The Doctor of Ministry is a professional degree which aims to assist Christian leaders in developing their ministry practice skills at an advanced level. Students engage with contemporary debates around ministry practice, engage in critical reflection on areas of ministry specialisation and carry out original research concerning practice in the profession. The Doctor of Ministry is only available on a part-time basis.
